Carlo Mauri

Carlo Mauri ( born March 25, 1930 in Lecco, Italy, † May 31, 1982 ) was an Italian mountaineer, adventurer and documentary filmmaker.

Life

Carlo Mauri grew up in Lecco on in Lombardy and started early with the climbing in the Alps; In 1953 he succeeded with Walter Bonatti the first winter ascent of the Cassin route on the western battlements. Later, several important first ascents (eg Gasherbrum IV) and numerous other expeditions, among others, Thor Heyerdahl followed.

Expeditions

  • Ra I Expedition by Thor Heyerdahl, 1969; Attempt an Atlantic crossing in a papyrus boat, the boat sinks about 1000 km in Barbados.
  • Ra II expedition by Thor Heyerdahl in 1970; Atlantic crossing from Morocco to the Caribbean on July 12, 1970, the Ra II reached Barbados.
