Carlos Acosta

Carlos Acosta CBE ( born June 2, 1973 in Havana ) is a Cuban ballet dancer and choreographer.

Life and work

Acosta was born in 1973 in Cuba. Forced by his father, he attended the National Ballet School in Havana and completed his training in 1991 successfully.

Since then, Acosta has danced in numerous companies worldwide, won among others the English National Ballet, the Cuban National Ballet and the Royal Ballet in London, and various awards.

Acosta has danced as a guest, among others, the American Ballet Theatre ( 2002), with the Paris Opera Ballet and numerous companies in Europe, North and South America, Japan and Australia.

As a choreographer Acosta has original music by Miguel Nuñez on autobiographical background Tocororo - A Cuban Tale created. The origin of the plant was in a BBC documentary entitled " Imagine" 2003 - Carlos Acosta: The Reluctant Ballet Dancer shown.

In 2011 he founded the non-profit foundation Carlos Acosta International Dance Foundation, which seeks to open its own ballet school in Havana. To this end, the unfinished and decaying since 1961 buildings will be on the grounds of the Escuelas Nacionales de Arte in the district Cubanacán that were originally intended for the Cuban National Ballet Alicia Alonso, with the help of architect Norman Foster further and rebuilt.
