Carlos Arias Navarro

Carlos Arias Navarro ( born December 11, 1908 in Madrid, † November 27, 1989 ) was a Spanish politician and 1973-1976 Prime Minister of Spain.

Since 1929, Arias Navarro worked as a lawyer in Málaga and Madrid in the Ministry of Justice. Politically right standing, he moved during the Spanish Civil War on the side of General Franco. From 1965 to 1973 was as a pragmatic management expert applicable Arias Navarro Mayor of Madrid. In June 1973 he was Minister of the Interior. After shortly after the Spanish Prime Minister Luis Carrero Blanco was assassinated one, he was appointed on December 29, 1973 as his successor. The swearing-in ceremony on January 2, 1974.

Arias Navarro candidate in the first democratic elections of the post- Franco era ( parliamentary elections on 15 June 1977 ) on the list of Alianza Popular by Manuel Fraga. Adolfo Suárez won the elections and remained until 1981, Prime Minister; Arias practiced the rest of his life not a major political office.
