Carlos de León

Carlos De León ( May 3, 1959 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico ) is a retired Puerto Rican boxer. He was a multiple world champion in the cruiserweight division.

Career

Carlos De León was founded in 1974 at the age of 15 years professional. 1976 and 1977 he lost two building battles against new enemies, but then started with abgeklärtem lock boxes a winning streak.

On November 25, 1980, he won the newly created cruiserweight against the first WBC title holder of the class, Marvin Camel, and became world champion. In his first title defense in February 1982 later he beat the same opponent by TKO before he was defeated in the same year the hard- hitting but little respected ST Gordon.

In 1983, he defeated Leon Spinks prematurely in a non-title fight and won the WBC title back with a points victory over Gordon. In a defense he defeated the heavyweight legend Yaqui Lopez prematurely, before he lost in 1985 with Alfonso Ratcliff back against a little -respected man, this time on points. He won the title but turn against his slayer Bernard Benton back.

After three more title defenses, he lost in 1988 against Evander Holyfield, who owned the other two titles of the WBA and IBF, in a unification fight prematurely.

As Holyfield climb into the heavyweight division, De Leon won the WBC title for the fourth time, and defended him with draw against Johnny Nelson from England, but then lost by disqualification against Italian Massimiliano Duran and never fought back a championship belt.

At the end of his career he lost the heavyweight division against Corrie Sanders and Brian Nielsen.
