Carlos Marchena López ( born July 31, 1979 in Las Cabezas, Seville ) is a Spanish football player.

Association

Marchena until 2000 when Sevilla FC active. At 20 he played his first game for the first team in a 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad in August 1999. During his year-long stint at Benfica in Lisbon (2000/ 01), he played so convincingly that FC Valencia interested in him and took him in the summer of 2001 for a four -year contract.

In the first season (2001/ 02) Marchena had teething problems, but the second year he was Spanish champion with Valencia. In the 2003 /04 season he made together with Roberto Ayala, probably the best interior defense that Valencia has ever had.
