Carlos Orozco Romero

Carlos Orozco Romero (* 1896 in Guadalajara, † March 29, 1984 in Mexico City) was a self-taught, Mexican artist.

At the age of 20years Orozco Romero began working as a cartoonist for various Mexican newspapers like Excelsior, El Universal, or the weekly magazine Revista de Revistas. In 1921 he won a scholarship from the state of Jalisco, which enabled him to travel to France and Spain. Shortly after his return in 1922, he met Jean Charlot know what was available in different printing techniques in the classroom. From 1923 he was a teacher at the Escuele Preparatoria in Guadalaraja. In 1925 he moved to Mexico City. From 1928 he taught with Carlos Mérida, Galeria de Arte Moderno in the Palacio de Bellas Artes, studied at the Academia de San Carlos, where he took courses for lithography at Emilio Amero and founded the Escuela de Danza Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura ( INBAL ). In 1939 he was a Guggenheim fellow in New York City.

He dealt in his work as well with woodwork, book illustrations and caricatures as well as stage and costume making. In his free artist's workshop he made from renowned artists. One of them is Tamara De la Torre. Orozco was a member of the Academia de Artes.
