Carlos Spencer

Carlos James Spencer ( born October 24, 1975 in Levin, New Zealand) is a New Zealand rugby union player who plays on the position of the connector. He was until 2004 part of the All Blacks, the New Zealand national team. Since February 2009, he plays for Gloucester RFC in England.

Spencer began his career in 1992 in the Third Division at Horowhenua. After one season, he moved to Auckland to play in the National Provincial Championship ( NPC) and later in the Super 12 for the Blues. With these he won the title three times (1996, 1997 and 2003).

He started in 1995, nominated for the national team, the first use against Argentina followed a year later. In the following years he came only to sporadic operations, since it Andrew Mehrtens was preferred. He was nominated for the squad for the World Cup in 1999, but was injured before the tournament and could not actively participate in the World Cup so. Only at the championships in 2003 in Australia, he came to his first world use.

2004 Spencer had difficulties to maintain the shape of the previous year and lost his hard-won place in the team again Mehrtens. The following year he took part in a game of New Zealand Māori against the British and Irish Lions, this should also be his last appearance for a selection of New Zealand. He undertook subsequent to England to play for Northampton.

Spencer is best known for its good kick and passing game. Only three players have scored in the history of the All Blacks more points - Grant Fox, Andrew Mehrtens and Daniel Carter. He was elected in 2006 in the dream team of the Guinness Premiership and Player of the Year for his club.
