Carlton Centre

The Carlton Centre is a skyscraper in Johannesburg, South Africa. It's in the Commissioner Street and was after its construction in 1973 with 223 meters the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere. Even today, it is the tallest skyscraper in Africa and Telkom Joburg Tower, and after the Sentech Tower South Africa's third tallest building.

On the top floor, the 50th, is the viewing platform The Top of Africa, which offers a panoramic view of Johannesburg. At an altitude of Johannesburg from 1753 meters, the platform is at almost 2000 meters above the sea.

The Carlton Centre was sold in 1999 for 33 million border, after it had been offered for two years. Today it houses the headquarters of Transnet, the parastatal South African Railways. On the lower floors there is a shopping center with over 180 shops and a skating rink.

The Carlton Hotel in a second, own tower in the same complex was closed in 1997. This could also be seen in films such as flatfoot in Africa.
