Carol Welsman

Carol Welsman ( born September 29, 1960 in Toronto ) is a Canadian jazz singer and pianist. She is the granddaughter of the composer and conductor Frank Welsman and the sister of composer John Welsman.

Artistic Career

Carol Welsman attended from 1980 to 1983, the Berklee College of Music in Boston with a major in piano and studied singing privately with Christiane Legrand in Europe. After returning to Toronto in 1990, she taught jazz at the University of Toronto, gave private lessons and founded a vocal ensemble for jazz improvisation.

Since then she has taught at Canadian and U.S. colleges and universities.

In 1995, she released her debut album Lucky to be me with jazz standards and their own composition " This Lullaby". In the Larry King show to commemorate the events of September 11, which aired in 2004, she presented the song to the public. "This Lullaby" was sung by Celine Dion 2004 on their CD Miracle under the title "Baby, Close Your Eyes ".

Welsman also wrote lyrics for several singers, such as Ray Charles, and Nicole Scherzinger from the Pussycat Dolls. Along with Herbie Hancock, she hosted in 2000, the Billboard Jazz Awards. Her CD of 2009 "I Like Men" - Reflections of Miss Peggy Lee, was elected in USA Today among the top 5 albums of the year 2009. In 2010 she joined Marian McPartlands piano jazz radio broadcast.

Her native language is English, and also their most songs are in English; she sings and also taught in French and sings several songs in Portuguese.
