Caroline, Princess of Hanover

Caroline Louise Marguerite Princess of Hanover, Hereditary Princess of Monaco, nee Caroline Louise Marguerite Grimaldi ( born January 23, 1957 in Monaco ) is the daughter of Prince Rainier III. of Monaco and Princess Grace. From the public and the media Caroline is referred to as "Princess Caroline " since childhood.

Caroline Grimaldi married on June 28, 1978 in Monaco money brokers Philippe Junot, of which she was divorced on 9 October 1980. The marriage was annulled on February 2, 1992 at the instigation of her father by the Roman Catholic Church.

On 29 December 1983, the princess married to Italian businessman Stefano Casiraghi son ( born September 8, 1960; † 3 October 1990). From this marriage three children were born:

  • Andrea Albert Pierre ( born June 8, 1984)
  • Charlotte Marie Pomeline ( born August 3, 1986) and
  • Pierre Rainier Stefano (born 5 September 1987).

Stefano Casiraghi died in a boating accident at the offshore World Championship before Cap Ferrat died.

From 1990 to 1995 Caroline had a relationship with the French actor Vincent Lindon. Since 23 January 1999 it has married his third wife with Prince Ernst August of Hanover and is now called Caroline Princess of Hanover.

From this marriage comes another daughter:

  • Alexandra Charlotte Ulrike Maryam Virginia Prinzessin von Hannover (born 20 July 1999).

Succession

Caroline stood at the time of their birth to square one line to the throne, but they lost with the birth of her brother Albert a year later due to the Monegasque primogeniture.

Since the death of her father Rainier III. and the accession of her brother Albert in 2005 is Caroline again the next contender to the Monegasque throne. Immediately after her comes her son Andrea, followed by his son Sacha.

Following the principle of primogeniture, ie in the case of the birth of a ( legitimate ) child of Prince Albert, however, it would lose this claim again.

Princess Caroline and the media

The private life of the princess was and is constantly subject to the reporting of international tabloids. Since the early 1990s, the Princess went with the help of lawyers are consistently ahead against publications of paparazzi photographs of her private life. From the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights, conducted now a claim for compensation from Princess Caroline against the Federal Republic of Germany, as the German courts had not adequately protected the privacy rights of the princess and her family in the previous processes. The amount of damages was compromised. In 2005, Caroline received a total of 115,000 Euros from the Federal Republic of Germany.
