Life and work

Breuer was already laid in the cradle, the daughter of Hermann Breuer jazz trombonist. At 19, she studied as a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra at the Conservatory in Hilversum with Ferdinand Povel. After the exam was followed by a longer stay in New York City, where she took private lessons with George Coleman and Branford Marsalis. Carolyn worked with musicians such as Coleman, Tine Schneider and Ingrid Jensen and founded her own record label in 2000 NotNowMom! Records. For their CD Serenade with the Orchestra of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, she received the Heidelberg Artist award, which was previously only given to classical musicians in 2003. International tours, appearances at the Berlin Jazz Festival or the North Sea Jazz Festival also reveal their artistic value as its activity as a guest soloist with the WDR Big Band Cologne. Their album Fate Smiles on Those Who Stay Cool (2001) was so popular that Interior Minister Klaas de Vries a parliamentary speech by quoting the title began in the Netherlands.
