Çarşamba ( Turkish for Wednesday) is a city in the Turkish province of Samsun. It forms the center of the district of the same name, among the total of 105 villages. The city is located 33 km from the largest port in the Black Sea Samsun. Through the city flows the Yeşilırmak and flows as Çarşamba Delta into the Black Sea.

History

At about 4000 BC the area now Çarşamba was first settled, and was occasionally dominated by the Hittites. 670 BC the city came under the rule of the Milesians and became part of the colony of Amisus ( Samsun). In the 6th century BC the city was occupied by the Persians, 63 BC it was incorporated into the Roman Empire.
