Carter Beauford

Carter Beauford ( born November 2, 1957 in Charlottesville, Virginia) is an American drummer and member of the Dave Matthews Band.

Life

Carter Beauford discovered to play the drums at the age of 3 years when his father Roland Beauford could not find a babysitter and had him instead with a concert of drummer Buddy Rich take. From that day on, his enthusiasm for Buddy Rich, drums, and was unstoppable.

Carter played his first appearance at the age of 9 years with a local jazz group whose members were all 20-30 years old and in him rather " a children's drummer who can play " saw.

The hi-hat and snare his first drum kit, which consisted inter alia of tensioned aluminum pot on paper skins, he placed " wrongly " on the right side ( typical installation for left-handers, but he was right-handed), because the drums of Buddy Rich for he seemed configured from the perspective of the audience in this way. This ' small mistake ' ensured however that he both right-and left-handed can now lead.

As a student at the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, he met Billy Drummond know, a New York jazz drummer. From then on he practiced every day with him. Although his skills improved steadily, he decided to study music. After he had twelve years of history taught in various elementary schools and high schools, but he returned this profession back and decided that henceforth only the music to devote: He started in a variety of country and disco bands to play him but not rare because his daring style threw out.

Between 1984 and 1990, Carter Beauford played in the band " Secrets" in Virginia. At the time Dave Matthews saw him. "The audience froze in awe of his game. I can honestly say that I was overwhelmed, " Matthews said.

But it was only in January 1991, after four years in Washington, DC had played in the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Jazz Show with musicians such as Roy Hargrove, he began to make their first recordings with Dave Matthews for a demo. During this time he always oscillated between Charlottesville and Washington back and forth, but soon left the BET show and turned entirely to the Dave Matthews Band to where he still plays today.
