Cartier (Montreal Metro)

Cartier is a metro station in Laval, a suburb of Montreal. It is located in the district of Pont- Viau at the intersection of Boulevard Cartier and Boulevard des Laurentides. Here courses of the Orange Metro Line 2 Montreal.

Building

Designed by Richard Fortin station was built in an open design with two side platforms. The architect chose it as simple as possible floor plan. The main building next to the bus station is in the shape of a right triangle, with the short sides parallel to the streets and the hypotenuse parallel to the tracks. This creates the background and the environment are brought into a relationship. The inputs are located at the vertices of the triangle. The middle part, under which there are escalators, deepens toward the ground and goes into a garden. A second input pavilion is on the opposite side of the intersection.

The distances to the neighboring stations, measured from end station to station early, be 1101.60 meters to Henri- Bourassa and 2073.60 meters to De La Concorde. Immediately there is a bus station, operated by the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) Terminus Cartier next to the station. From there operate 21 bus routes and a night bus the Société de transport de Laval and two bus lines from CIT Laurentides. Some long-distance bus have their starting point, also maintains the AMT a park and ride facility with 599 parking spaces.

Art

About the garden in front of the main building, two stand steel sculptures in the air. The work L' homme est un roseau pensant III ( " Man is a thinking reed " ) by the Polish artist Jacek Jarnuskiewicz forms a vertical contrast to the horizontal propagation of the complex, while the wattle produces a reference to the triangular shape. It reminds of the reeds of the former drained wetlands, but can also be interpreted as a dragonfly or herons. In the Hall of the second entrance pavilion hangs from the ceiling the sculpture designs suspendus ( "Hanging Drawings " ), consisting of three semicircular metal elements in flowers or propeller shape.
