Casa Pia AC

The Casa Pia AC MH M ( officially: Casa Pia Atlético Clube ) is a sports club in the Portuguese capital Lisbon. It was founded on July 3, 1920 for the pupils of the educational institution Casa Pia. Many players are or were students of the house.

History

The sporting successes of the association are particularly during the first twenty years of its existence. One year after the founding of the club won its first city championship of Lisbon and the Taça Associação. On July of the same year went on to win the Taça Casa Pia 27 de Julho (German Cup July 17 ) against FC Porto 2-0, which was viewed as an unofficial championship game.

The first international match of the Portuguese national team on December 18, 1921 against Spain were four players from Casa Pia in the squad, including the captain Cândido de Oliveira, António Pinho and J. Maria António Augusto Lopes and Gralha. Nevertheless, this game was lost with 1:3.

1938, was a founding member of the Primeira Divisão, the first official championship in league mode in Portugal, due to the qualification of the regional tournaments. Nevertheless Casa Pia finished the season in last place, after just one win ( 2-1 home win against FC Barreirense ) and 13 defeats. Since then, the club could never qualify again for the first division, which is reflected on the Table of the Eternal Primeira Liga, where Casa Pia is the last place.

After the 1964/65 season Casa Pia promotion to the Segunda Divisão. In the same year, the club went on tour in the U.S. and was even received by the Senate of the United States.

Honors

On July 27, 1970 the Association of Portuguese Order of Merit was awarded the Honorary Member grade.

Stadium

From 1920 to 1924, the club wore his games in the Campo from the Laranjeiras. On 21 December 1924, the new stadium ( Campo do RESTELO ) was inaugurated by the then President of Portugal, Manuel Teixeira Gomes and with two games, the first and youth team opened against Belenenses Lisbon. In 1940, the stadium was the club by the Estado Novo expropriated. Because on the property on which stood the stadium, some time should be held later in the Exposição do Mundo Português (German Exhibition of the Portuguese World ). In the next 14 years, the club changed hands a number of times the stadium opened to the Estádio Pina Manique with games against FC Porto, Vitória Setúbal, Benfica, Belenenses Lisbon and Atlético CP on 29 August 1954.
