Casimiro Gennari

Casimiro Gennari Cardinal ( born December 29, 1839 in Maratea, † January 31, 1914 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Casimiro Gennari was born in 1839 in Maratea. He attended a Jesuit school in Naples and studied at the seminary in Salerno.

On March 21, 1863 he was ordained a priest in Salerno. Subsequently, he worked as a chaplain in the Diocese of Conversano. He was the founder of the monthly appearing newspaper Il monitors Ecclesiastico.

On 13 May 1881 he was appointed Bishop of Conversano. He received his episcopal consecration Edward Henry Cardinal Howard on 15 May of the same year in the church Sant'Alfonso all'Esquilino. On November 15, 1895, he was appointed assessor of the Congregation of the Roman Inquisition, and general and appointed on 6 February 1897 Titular Archbishop of Naupactus. At the same time he continued to administer the diocese of Conversano.

Pope Leo XIII. took him on 15 April 1901 as Cardinal Priest of San Marcello to the College of Cardinals. He participated in the conclave of 1903 that elected Pius X.. Pius X appointed him on October 20, 1908 Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation Council.

Gennari died on January 31, 1914 in Rome. His grave is located in the Cathedral of Policastro.
