Cassation (music)

Cassation (also Cassation, Cassatio, Cassation ) is a musical genre term.

The cassation was maintained in the music of the 18th century and mostly composed for outdoor entertainment. It provides a mostly cheerful, multi-movement work for several, mostly solo instruments is occupied (similar to the divertimento, the Serenade or the Nocturne, all these terms were often used interchangeably ). It often begins with a march, overall they can be up to seven sets.

Linguistically, the name can be derived from the Italian word that translates directly cassatione about adoption or dismissal means. Other explanations, such as from gassatim same street elevator, or by cassa same drum, probably do not apply.

Works in this genre, for example, wrote Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Carl Ditter von Dittersdorf and Antonio Salieri.
