Castel Viscardo

Castel Viscardo is a municipality with 3005 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Terni in the Umbria region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 26 km ². It is located about 60 km south-west of the regional capital of Perugia and about 35 km northwest of the provincial capital on the river Paglia of Terni and on the border with Latium north of Lake Bolsena in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone E, 2287 GR / G. It belongs to the Comunità montana Monte Selva di Meana Peglia e.

The districts include Le Prese, Monterubiaglio, Pianlungo and Viceno.

The neighboring municipalities are Acquapendente (VT), Allerona, Castel Giorgio and Orvieto.

History

In the 14th century the Castle of Our Lady was built, later the town grew around the castle around. First Men were the Monaldeschi from Orvieto, then reached the Spada dominion over the place, and later the Count of Monte Vecchio. The previously acting as an independent Comune district Monterubiaglio (about 340 meters above zero, 350 inhabitants in 2001) in 1879 annexed to the municipality.
