The Estádio Plácido Aderaldo Castelo, short Castelão or Gigante da Boa Vista, called in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza, the state capital of Ceará, is after reconstruction with a capacity of 64 165 spectators, the largest and most modern football stadium of the state. It is named after the governor who gave the impetus for the construction.

History

The Castelão is the venue for the club Fortaleza EC, Ceará SC and the National insignificant Ferroviário AC. The Brazilian national team between 1980 and 2002 played seven matches in Castelão.

The state-owned stadium was opened on November 11, 1973 met the inauguration in front of 70,000 spectators Ceará SC and Fortaleza EC to Derby, the Classico Rei ( King Classic German ) are known as the Games of the two city rivals on the spot. The game ended 0-0. The first goal therefore had one more week to wait until November 18 Erandy to 1:0 final score of Ceará hit against EC Vitória.

Remodeling World Cup 2014

The Castelão, one of those wide, almost round classic Brazilian stadiums, will find use in the 2013 Football World Cup in 2014 and for the FIFA Confederations Cup. First, however, a complete conversion was necessary, which increases the capacity of 64 165 seats. As the first stadium of the World Cup, the venue has been completed in December 2012 after the renovation beginning in March 2011.

The stadium received, among other things, a new roof, a VIP booths area including hosting and a new playing field. For the completely revised transport links also include an underground parking garage with 4,200 parking spaces. A total of around 192 million euros were invested in the new venue. On 16 December 2012, the stadium in the presence of Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff and Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo and Ceará Governor Cid Gomes was inaugurated. Rousseff led symbolically from the first impulse in the stadium. First games are scheduled for late January 2013, then finds the Copa do Nordeste, a regional football tournament instead.
