Castle of Rudenz

The Rudenz castle dates from the early 13th century and is in the Uri Flüelen community. The building was originally built as a fortified tower to control the Gotthard road and poor customs station. The Empire tariff was in 1300 in the possession of the Lords of ATTINGHAUSEN.

History

The tower is first mentioned in 1369. The first known owner was Baron Johann of ATTINGHAUSEN. After his death around 1359, the castle came around 1360 by marriage to the originating from the Haslital Knights of Rudenz. 1382 died John of Rudenz the last representative of the Rudenz.

Construction

The tower of the 13th century was rebuilt several times. The present appearance dates mainly from the 17th century. The castle was greatly reduced in size, filled the trenches and the surrounding wall with corner towers were demolished from little remains. The Rudenzpark is publicly available; on the castle grounds, a children's play area was set up. The castle is now owned by the municipality Flüelen.
