Walls of the Castle of the Moors

The Castle of the Moors is the ruin of a castle, which is located in the forest above the Portuguese town of Sintra. It is part of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As expressed by the name, the castle was built in the 8th or 9th century by the Moors. 1147 conquered the Portuguese King Alfonso I the castle and built a Christian chapel. The Portuguese used the plant as a result hardly and the castle fell into disrepair in the following centuries. During the Romantic period, around 1860, a comprehensive renovation of the remaining walls took place. Is obtained from the original system now only slightly.
