Castle Saalhof

Saalhof Castle is a castle in Maishofen and one of the oldest residences in the Pinzgau. The present building dates from the early 17th century, but during renovation work significantly older foundations and parts of the wall were found on the north and east sides of the building to which the present castle was built around 1600. 1766 the famous Salzburg botanist Franz Anton Alexander von Brown was born in the castle.

Since 1992, the ensemble consisting of castle, Meier house and wayside cross, a historical monument. The buildings are privately owned and are not open to the public, but is an accommodation facility located in the building.

History

In 1296 the needle seat was probably owned by "Konrad the devil." The estate was first archbishop fief, which was first mentioned in 1423 in the possession of Oswald iron Stang documented. 1584 became part of the family of Jews Amann village. Under Cristoff Amann of Jews to the village hall was built in the early 17th century, the typical Pinzgauer needle seat, as is to be seen today. In 1634 the castle came to the Riedl family. A magnificent coat of arms on the first floor bears witness to the marriage of Mathias Riedl and Hall 1661, née Maria Riedlin Stöcklin Jews of the village. The Meier house on the eastern side of the area was once home to the administrator ( Meier ), the servants and the servants. The year is 1686 on the gable as the year of construction. The building was used in 1814 as a school for Maishofen.
