Cat sìth

The Cait Sith ( Scottish Gaelic: [k ʰ AHT ʃi ː ] ) or Cat Sidhe ( Irish: [ KAT ˠ ʃi ː ], Cat Sí in new orthography ) is a legendary figure of Celtic mythology. It is a large black cat that will live in the Highlands. Because of their presumed connection with the so-called Kellas Cat, which was first spotted in 1984, it is also associated with the crypto zoology.

Characteristics and origin

The cat has a white spot on the chest and is, apart from the fact altogether black. It is just like the Feenhund Cu Sith a being (see Sidhe ) is associated with the fairies. In contrast to the dog, but the cat is not green and looks, aside from the somewhat unusual size, regular size. In some stories, the Cait Sith, a transformed witch.

Stories about the animal will be told in the Scottish folk beliefs, isolated but also in Irish. The name means " Feenkatze " ( cait = cat; sidhe = Celtic Fairy ). The Cait Sith is usually not out to harm people. However, they should surprise alone in remote places or threaten them, then they can be very wild and dangerous.

The Kellas Cat was mentioned on September 19, 1984 in Forres Gazette of Moray in Scotland for the first time. A large unknown cat had been three months earlier caught in the highlands on the Revack Lodge near Grantown -on-Spey in a fox trap. After a rather superficial examination of the carcass, the skin was peeled off, but that was useless. A second specimen was shot at Kellas on the River Lossie, hence the name, and stuffed. In further studies, it was finally determined that we are dealing with high probability hybrids of domestic cats with wild cats.

The Cait Sith in the Modern

Cait Sith is mentioned primarily in computer games such as Final Fantasy or Princess Maker and in this case has a mostly antagonistic character. Even in anime like Aria or Ao no Exorcist Cait Sith are mentioned, but without appearing as a reception.
