Cat - Women of the Moon is a science fiction film directed by Arthur Hilton from the year 1953.

Action

A five-member team of astronauts is on a research mission in space. For a moon landing, Helen recommends that the navigator of the crew, Captain Grainger the dark side of the moon, as there give a particularly good landing place. Once there, she leads the team in a nearby cave, which they claimed to have seen at the landing. The cave before an Earth-like atmosphere, so that the astronauts can take off their space suits. Suddenly attacking, floating in the air giant spiders can be overcome by the intrepid crew member Kip using his revolver. While they face in their explorations on a seemingly deserted, splendid city which grows in the Department distrust of Helen, which it has resulted in a targeted manner to this place and suddenly disappears without a trace. A group futuristic dressed women under the leadership of Alpha has recorded with Helen long ago telepathic contact in order to seize their help with the spaceship and launch an invasion of the Earth.

Helen, who is still under the telepathic influence of Cat Women, gives her new girlfriends against their counterparts from the good-natured host. Alpha assures the men who disappeared seemingly mysteriously spacesuits wiederzubesorgen. While the attractive moon residents, the two crewmen Doug and Walt quickly wrap around her fingers and Helen makes the longer you already dilapidated Captain docile, Kip resists the temptations and illusions, and finally he succeeds Helen wake up from their hypnosis -like state. She tearfully tells the men of the plans of the Cat Women. After the Alpha Lambda dissident who has foolishly in love with one of the men has stripped, she now wants to lose any more time and rushes with one of the stolen space suits in the direction of the ship. However, it is shot by Kip from behind and the resistance of the Cat Women is broken. The crew takes the journey home.

Background and reception

The soundtrack is one of the first works of the later famous Hollywood composer Elmer Bernstein, who also wrote the music for the sci-fi cult film Robot Monster in the same year. Director Arthur Hilton was known primarily for his multiple Oscar-nominated work as an editor. His numerically lower directorial work are mainly limited to the field of broadcasting. The premiere of the film on 3 September 1953 and reached some European cinemas, but not the German-speaking countries.

The low budget production was certified a comparatively remarkable features for which the force as a pioneer of the Space film art director Chesley Bonestell was responsible. Were highlighted as well as the 3D images of the cameraman William Whitley. However, the plot of the film and the performances reaped mostly ridicule.
