Catalectic

The Katalexe (from the Greek κατάληξις, katálēxis, " early stopping ") is a phenomenon of the metric. A verse is called katalektisch, whose last metrical foot is incomplete, ie, a syllable carries less than expected. In a dactyl and a shortening of two syllables is possible by omission of both cuts.

A reverse phenomenon, ie a complete verse is called akatalektisch.

Hyperkatalexe referred to a verse with supernumerary syllable.

In the quantified metric antiquity it relates to the definition of Katalexe on the meter. It refers to a verse as katalektisch when the last meter of the metric scheme of the preceding metrics differ by truncation.
