Cătălin Predoiu

Catalin Marian Predoiu ( born August 27, 1968 in Buzău ) is a Romanian politician.

Biography

After schooling at Colegiul Naţional "Bogdan Petriceicu - Hasdeu " between 1986 and 1991 he studied law at the University of Bucharest, which he graduated with a licentiate in 1991. He then worked as a lawyer and graduated in 1994 with postgraduate studies in commercial law at the University of Caen. Upon his return to Romania, he was still working as a lawyer in Bucharest. As such, he was from 2003 to 2007 first as a member of the Council of the Bar Association of Bucharest and since 2007 a ​​member of the Standing Commission of the Romanian Bar Association ( Uniunii a national Barourilor din România ). At the same time he was between 1994 and 2007 Lecturer in Commercial Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Bucharest. During this time he earned a doctorate in 2004 with a dissertation on Commercial Law, where he graduated summa cum laude.

Predoiu was appointed to the second cabinet of Prime Minister Calin Popescu - Tăriceanu on 29 February 2008 as a member of Partidul Naţional Liberal (PNL ) to the Minister of Justice. This office he retained under his successor Emil Boc ( Partidul Democrat Liberal ) as of 22 December 2008 and was also Minister for Civil Liberties. A party exclusion from the PNL, which went into opposition after the election, he came through the exit before.

On 2 October 2009 he was also made in the Cabinet as Acting Foreign Minister Boc I and served as such until 23 December 2009. In the government formed in December 2009, he again took over the post of Minister of Justice. Following the resignation of the Romanian Government in early 2012 Catalin Predoiu was appointed by President Traian Basescu as Acting Prime Minister.

Besides his work as a lawyer and university lecturer Predoiu was also the author of multiple scholarly articles and monographs for trading and credit law as:

In 2003 he was awarded the Simion - Bărnuţiu Prize of the Romanian Academy ( Academia Română).
