Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, Podgorica

The Resurrection Cathedral ( Montenegrin: Саборни Храм Христовог Васкрсења / Saborni Hram Hristovog Vaskrsenja ) is the Serbian Orthodox Church main and largest temple of Podgorica and one of the landmarks of the Montenegrin capital.

It is the Cathedral of the Metropolitan See of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Resurrection Cathedral was built in 1993-1999, designed by the architect Predrag Ristic and Jovan Popović. Your 34 -meter high dome dominates the city's image.

On 18 May 1994, the foundations of the Savior from the then Serbian Patriarch Pavle, the then Russian Patriarch Alexius II, the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije Radovic and a host of bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church with a were solemn liturgy inaugurated.

On October 7, 2013, the Resurrection Cathedral was inaugurated eight patriarchs of the Orthodox Churches. Thousands of people had gathered for this event in front of the cathedral.

Trivia

A fresco in the Cathedral shows the communist philosopher Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels and the Yugoslav state and party leader Josip Broz Tito in hell.
