Catherine Asaro

Catherine ( Ann ) Asaro ( born 1955 in Oakland (California ), USA) is an American science fiction and fantasy author.

Life

Catherine Asaro was born in Oakland ( California). She grew up in El Cerrito, a small town north of Berkeley ( California).

In her youth she was a ballet training, and at the age of 15, she passed the entrance test for admission to the Royal Academy in London. But she refrained, to study ballet because their preference was victorious for the natural sciences.

Instead she studied at Harvard University, where she obtained a master's degree in physics and a Ph.D. in chemical physics, and at the University of California, from her a bachelor's degree "with Highest Honors " was awarded in chemistry.

During her student days at Harvard, she was a prima ballerina and choreographer for "The Mainly Jazz Dancers" and "The Harvard University Ballet ." They completed appearances on the east and on the west coast of America as well as in Ohio. After their graduation from the Mainly Jazz Dancers were taken over by other (not yet graduated ) students and converted to a fixed establishment of the university.

Catherine Asaro has, among others, at the University of Toronto in Canada, at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Germany and at the Harvard - Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in the U.S. Research is operated (applied quantum physics to describe the behavior of atoms and molecules ). Catherine Asaro was a physics professor at Kenyon College until 1990. At the time, she founded " Molecudyne Research", a research organization, which she still directs today.

Catherine Asaro was interim President of SFWA. When not writing or has guest appearances at various conferences, she teaches a "math club for homeschool children of all ages ."

She lives with her husband John Kendall Cannizzo ( NASA astrophysicist ) and her daughter ( ballet dancer and mathematician ) in Maryland.

Work

Catherine Asaro is mainly a representative of Speculative Romance. Depending on the perspective, she writes

Her books and stories have been once honored with the Nebula Award and twice with the Sapphire Award. These numerous nominations come for a variety of SF / F literary prizes.
