Catholic Diocese of the Australian Defence Force

The Australian Military Ordinariate (English: Military Ordinariate of Australia, Military ), is a Military Ordinariate in Australia and responsible for the Australian armed forces.

History

The Military Ordinariate in Australia is responsible for the uniformed members of the Australian Navy, the Army and the Air Force, their families and civilians who worked in the Department of Defence and Catholic religious affiliation are the pastoral care. It was Pope Paul VI. established on March 6, 1969. After a mutual decision between the Holy See and the Commonwealth of Australia is the seat of the Australian Military Ordinariate in Campbell.

In 1912 the Catholic Bishops of Australia commissioned to take the Archbishop of Melbourne Thomas Joseph Carr talks with the Department of Defence to appoint Militärkaplänen. First military chaplain with the rank of bishop was Archbishop Carr. He had the status of a Major - General (2 stars).
