Catoptrics

The catoptrics is the study of the reflection of light on reflective surfaces, so a branch of optics. The name origin is based on a memoir of the same name from ancient Greece, which is attributed to Euclid. In this work first appeared, the relationship " angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection " to be a part of the law of reflection, and it will be concave and convex mirrors treated. The catoptrics is delimited by the dioptrics that deals with light-refracting systems.

In light microscopy are catoptrical condensers those which consist of mirrors to dioptric unlike that consist of glass lenses. Catoptrical condensers are used in dark field microscopy.

A catadioptric system, such as a catadioptric telescope having both reflective ( catoptric ) or refractive ( dioptric ) elements. Other examples are mirror lens lenses and catadioptric Dialyte.
