Cavalerius (crater)

59.35

Cavalerius is an impact crater on the western edge of the lunar front side, which is why it appears highly distorted from Earth. It lies on the western edge of Oceanus Procellarum, north of the crater Hevelius. The border is irregular and somewhat eroded, the inner wall has terracing on. The Massif Central is divided into three parts.

Northeast is Planitia descent ( " level landing " ), the regional office of the Soviet spacecraft Luna 9

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian mathematician Bonaventura Cavalieri.
