Cayo Espanto

Cayo Espanto is an island off the coast of Belize. It belongs to the 450 islands of the Belize Barrier Reef. Administratively, it is part of the Belize District. The island is privately owned, owner Jeff Gram.

Until 1997 the island was nameless and formed together with two adjacent, tiny islets Pinkerton Islands. In 1997, the native of Atlanta, Georgia Broker Jeff Gram bought the island and renamed it Cayo Espanto one, in German the " terrible island " because it is cursed according to local folklore. In December 1998 Gram opened a resort with five bungalows for guests. There is a helipad, a spa, a fitness room and a PADI dive center on the island. Various celebrities were in the past on Cayo Espanto guest, including Leonardo DiCaprio, the nearby island of Caye Blackadore bought up along with Jeff Gram to make there another resort.
