CDS/ISIS

In CDS / ISIS (Computerized Documentation System / Integrated Set of Information Systems, English something like " computerized documentation system / Integrated Collection of Information Systems" ) is a database management system for general information storage and an interface for querying, developed by the UNESCO, maintained will and spread since 1985.

The Windows version of the software, which is known under the name Winisis can run well on a single computer or on a LAN. The Java version JavaISIS is a client- server version allows external query on the Internet and is available for the operating systems Windows, Linux and Macintosh. Genisis allows the user to produce HTML web forms for CDS / ISIS database query.

This database system is used primarily for bibliographic databases. The user-defined database structure allows the system to use but also for many other purposes, in which alphanumeric data is structured to be collected and made available. Because of its multi-lingual system architecture CDS / ISIS and Winisis is widely translated into many languages ​​worldwide.

In many countries, there are registered by UNESCO multipliers and distributors of CDS / ISIS and Winisis. In addition, a number of user organizations have established that support each other in the further development and application of the software.

CDS / ISIS and Winisis are very common especially in Latin America and Eastern Europe. But also in Asia and Africa the system is used. In Western Europe it is less popular. While it is used in Portugal and Italy, even in public libraries, it takes place in Germany, especially in higher education institutions and other educational establishments, museums and smaller clubs application.
