Ceccano

Geography

Ceccano is located 11 km south of Frosinone and 89 km south-east of Rome.

The old town of Ceccano situated on a hill above the river Sacco, between the Monti Ernici in the North and the Monti Lepini in the south.

History

In the time of ancient Rome it was known as Fabrateria. Since the 7th century BC, the town was settled by the Volscians. 330 BC it was a Roman municipium. Around the year 600 AD changed the place in honor of the consul Petronio Ceccanus, father of Pope Honorius I, the name in Ceccano. Ceccano belonged directly to the Holy See.
