Cedric Brooks

Cedric "Im " Brooks ( born 1943 in Kingston, † May 3, 2013 in New York City ) was a Jamaican reggae musician and saxophonist.

Life and work

Brooks was a student of the Alpha Boys School in Kingston at age 11. There, Brooks learned clarinet. As a young adult learned Brooks still tenor saxophone and flute.

In the late 1960s he founded with David Madden, the duo Im & David. It published a series of instrumental songs. The songs Moneymaker and Mystic Mood were great successes.

Starting in 1970, Brooks worked with Count Ossie and the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari group The. In addition, Brooks founded the band The Light of Saba and was a member of the Skatalites.

Cedric Brooks was the father of seven children.

Since February 2010, Brooks was in a coma- like state. Brooks suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes and lost his ability to speak. Brooks died at the age of 70 years to a cardiac arrest.
