Cédric Lyard

Cédric Lyard ( born January 22, 1972 in Grenoble ) is a French event rider, Olympic Champion and Knight of the Legion of Honor

As a 7 -year-old Lyard began to ride, he played his first competition at the age of 13 years. His first participation abroad, the Badminton Horse Trials in 1997. At the World Equestrian Games in 2002 in Jerez de la Frontera, he won the silver medal with the team.

Lyards greatest achievement is winning the team gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. The French were initially came second, but the German team was subsequently reset to fourth place, as Bettina Hoy had triggered too early when jumping timing. The International Sports Court upheld the decision of the jury.

His horse Fine de Merveille, had celebrated with him all his previous successes, died in July 2005 of heart failure. On Jolly Hope de Treille he finished fifth at the European Championships in Pratoni del Vivaro.
