Ceferino Garcia

Ceferino Garcia ( born August 26, 1906 in Naval, Biliran, † January 1, 1981 in San Diego, California, United States) was a Filipino boxer at middleweight.

Life

A native of the Philippines Garcia, who was born according to other sources in 1903, began his career as a boxer in 1923, first in the welterweight division and won on October 2, 1939 World Champion title of the NYSAC middleweight the International Boxing Union in a fight against Fred Apostoli in New York City, he out in the seventh round by a knock. On December 23, 1939, he defended his title in Manila against Glen Lee by a technical knockout.

His victory in the middleweight title fight on March 1, 1940 against Henry Armstrong, against whom he had lost welterweight ever, is considered misjudgment.

His title he lost on May 23, 1940, in a 15 lap continuous fight against Fred Apostoli.

In 1945, he ended his career after 18 years, where he won 67 times by KO and another 24 times by points decision. Garcia was particularly known for his fighting style and the so-called used by him " Bolo Punch ", which he finished as an uppercut apply. One of his coaches was Ray Arcel.
