CEFIC

The Federation of European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC Conseil Européen of French de l'Industrie Chimique ) is the trade association of the European chemical industry with headquarters in Brussels. CEFIC represents the political interests of the chemical industry at the European level. The international work is controlled by the International Council of Chemical Associations ICCA (International Council of Chemical Associations), in which the Cefic is a member.

History

The association was founded under the name of International Secrétariat Groupements Professionnel des Industries Chimiques of the Pays de la CEE ( SIIC ) in 1957. Two years later, the Conseil Européen de l'Industrie Chimique des Fédérations ( Cefic ) is founded. In Cefic only the chemical companies of the European Free Trade Association ( EFTA) are first organized. Only in the year 1972, the two organizations join forces under the name of Cefic, to better represent the interests of European industry in the international chemical industry association can.

In 1990 the organization was renamed and is called since European Chemical Industry Council. The acronym Cefic has been retained.

The six Associate Members are organizations from Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania. Since September 2012 Kurt Bock (BASF ) President of Cefic.

Policy

REACH, the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals, is a regulation of the European Union, requiring the companies to test their own marketed chemicals for their safety. Cefic has been used until recently for this Regulation to at least loosen, to preserve the international competitiveness of the European chemical industry. SQAS is a Europe- wide standard for hazardous substances. Since 1994, Cefic has developed various procedures to the SQAS to transfer the ISO 9000 on transport of dangerous goods, warehouse etc..
