Cela (Angola)

Province

Cela is a district in the west of Angola. Besides the official language Portuguese Kimbundu is predominantly spoken here.

History

Since the 16th century ever larger parts of Angola came under the rule of the Portuguese colonial empire. In the course of administrative reform of the Governor of Angola, Francisco de Sousa Coutinho Inocêncio, 1769 Cuanza Sul province was established, and Cela was a county of the province.

During the Angolan Civil War (1975-2002) Cela was the scene of fierce fighting. The mining areas further provided in addition to the fighting for a decline of all forms of economic activity, particularly in major agriculture. After the end of the civil war slowly began to return the fugitive inhabitants and a recovery in agriculture. Education

Cela is a circle ( municipality ) in the Province Cuanza Sul. The capital is Waku - Kungo. Its neighboring districts are starting clockwise from the north: Quibala, Andulo, Bailundo, Cassongue Seles and Ebo.

The circuit consists of three municipalities ( Comunas ):

  • Kissanga Kungo
  • Sanga
  • Waku - Kungo ( Cela )

The total population approximately 244,000 people in circle Cela. 1991, there were about 148,000.
