Celtas Cortos

Celtas Cortos (Spanish for the short / small Celts ) is a Spanish rock band with strong Irish folk influences. Also revealed in the course of time of contact with metal, ska, flamenco, Son Cubano and even techno.

Band History

Founded they were in Valladolid in 1986. Originating they are out of the band Almenara. Among the four members of the group were joined by added four more to take part in a music competition. This they won under the name Colectivo Euro Folk, which they later changed in Celtas Cortos.

The recordings for their first album, they won on a further competition in April 1987. However, they had the CD with two other winners ( Agora and Yedra ) share. You can hear the result on the disc Así es como suena: joven folk.

The first independent nor purely instrumental album Salida de emergencia was recorded with the help of Paco Martín. On the second album Gente Impresentable contributed Jesús H. Cifuentes ( Cifu ) at the lyrics and the vocals. The Celtic rock style eventually became associated with critical policy and melancholy lyrics. In the course of time came to influences from Caribbean music, flamenco, electrical or even reggae. Well known are the Celta Cortos among others for their hits 20 de Abril, La senda del tiempo or Tranquilo Majete.

In 2002 there was a turning point in the band's history, as by César Cuenca and Nacho Martín Cifu also left the band. However, he returned back to 2006 band to record the album 40 de Abril with them 20 years after the band's formation.
