Çemişgezek (Armenian Չմշկածագ, Melkişî also called ) is a district and a city in the province of Tunceli in Turkey. The county Çemişgezek has 7,566 inhabitants (as of 2011). Less than a third of the population lives ( 2,615 inhabitants) in the city Çemişgezek. Zazaki and Kurmanji are the most common languages ​​of the district. The city Çemişgezek away from the provincial capital of Tunceli 117 km.

The place was named after the Byzantine Emperor John Tzimiskes. John Tzimiskes comes from an Armenian dynasty and ruled in the 10th century. His name itself derives from the Armenian term tschemschkik what Red Boot means from.

Geography

The district is located in the west of the province and has an area of 865 km ². It borders the provinces of Erzincan, Elazig and south to the Keban Reservoir. The most important river is the coming of Hozat Tagar Çayı, which flows into the reservoir. The most important surveys are the pilaf Tepe, Tepe Bozan, Kirklar Tepesi and Yilan Dağ ( 2950 m). From north to south the terrain drops. The north of the county is part of the Munzurgebirges. Around the city there are many levels. Çemişgezek has lost by the lake much agricultural area, there were quite 14 and 12 villages partially flooded. Today, there are 31 villages throughout the county and 29 hamlets.
