Cénac-et-Saint-Julien

Cenac -et -Saint -Julien is a commune with 1194 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region.

The small village of Cenac lies at the foot of the rock massif where the Bastide of Domme was built. Outside of the village stands a Romanesque church, which once belonged to a priory, which had established an abbot of Moissac, Aquilanus, in 1090. The building probably dates from the early 12th century. During the chaos of war already damaged several times, the church was finally finally burned in the 16th century by the Huguenot leader Geoffroy de Vivans. But the choir was spared and was offset by a restoration to its original condition. Transept and nave of the present church building were built in the 19th century.

From the cemetery from the main choir is visible with its stone-tiled roof, which is supported by ornate with foliated capitals buttresses. Also inside some carved capitals with new and Old Testament as well as allegorical motifs are preserved.
