Cengaver Katrancı

Cengaver Katranci ( probably * 1964October 30, 1972 in Berlin) was a living in West Berlin Turkish student who drowned in an accident in the River Spree. Cengaver is therefore regarded as one of the youngest victims of the Berlin Wall.

The 8 -year-old Cengaver stood at October 30, 1972 about 13 clock in the Kreuzberg district together with a friend on Gröbenufer near the upper tree bridge and fed birds. Then he lost his balance and fell into the river Spree, which belonged at this point in full to East Berlin. The alarmed and timely published firefighters of West Berlin was not allowed to intervene. A boat of the East Berlin Fire Department stayed in the middle of the river, but was not allowed to approach the western shore without permission itself. Against 14.30 clock began an East Berlin lifeboat with the search for the boy, who was found after about half an hour and was salvaged by divers of the National People's Army.

Cengaver Katranci had at least five children who lost by Andreas Senk († at the age of 6), the second in this way their lives. Similar fate overtook at the same or near point in the following years Siegfried Kroboth († at the age of 5), Giuseppe Savoca († at the age of 6) and Mert Çetin († at the age of 5).
