Center for Icelandic Art

The Center for Icelandic Art, short CIA.IS ( isländisch. Kynningarmiðstöð íslenskrar myndlistar ) is an institution for international networking Icelandic, visual art. The CIA.IS was founded as an independent organization in 2005 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Research and Culture.

Carrier in addition to the state and municipal museums ( National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavik Arts Museum, Art Museum Akureyri, Living Art Museum ) of the Union of Artists of SIM, the association for the protection of copyrights Myndstef, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Icelandic trade office.

The core task of the CIA.IS include the promotion of intercultural exchange. A support program for Icelandic artist supports this issue in their efforts abroad to study or to draw attention to themselves through publications. The structure of international cultural networks is promoted with a variety of projects.

The CIA.IS organized the Icelandic contribution to La Biennale di Venezia. With the online magazine LIST Icelandic art news the CIA.IS has published an internationally oriented art magazine. From 2005 to 2010, the German art historian and curator Christian Schoen led the institution. Since March 2010, Dorothée Kirch is the director of the CIA.IS.

Program

Center

The center is located in Reykjavík ( Hafnarstræti 16). The visitor can find all the important up-to -date information on Icelandic artists and art institutions. Also, are the visitor a library and a DVD archive for free. The visitor can gain a good insight into the Icelandic art scene.

Website

The CIA.IS serves as a window to the Icelandic art scene. It offers information on all the museums, galleries and other art institutions. With the database UMM.IS information about Icelandic artists, their works and projects are provided. The website also contains all the necessary information about the CIA.IS program for Icelandic artists as well as contacts to the international art world.

Cooperations and Projects

The CIA.IS working together on projects with national and / or international partners. Current collaborative projects include the SEQUENCES real-time art festival in Reykjavík or the exhibition project " HOME SICK ".

La Biennale di Venezia

The Icelandic Pavilion at the 52nd International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia - was the first, which was supervised by the CIA.IS. Since then takes over the CIA.IS the organization for the Biennale in Venice.
