Central Air Force Museum
The Central Museum of the Air Forces of the Russian Federation in Monino is a museum complex, which deals with the Soviet and Russian aviation history.
The museum is located within a barracks about 40 km from Moscow on the former airport Monino, which was in operation from 1932 to 1956. At this point the museum was founded in 1958 and opened on 23 February 1960. It was initially civilian visitors not accessible because it showed secret exhibits that were provided by the OKBs available. 2001, however, the gates were open to the normal public. The aircraft manufacturer in the country support the museum since then with few resources. The museum is located in the immediate vicinity of the Military Academy of the Air Force, " J. A. Gagarin "
The museum shows the development of Soviet aviation from the beginning to the present day with numerous exhibits. Particularly worth seeing is the outdoor area with numerous individual pieces, rare prototypes, and almost all the types used in the Soviet Air Force. A total of about 173 aircraft and helicopters, as well as 127 engines and turbines are issued. Of these 44 exhibits of the Russian Academy of Sciences have been declared national monuments of science and technology.
