The Banque Centrale des Etats de l' Afrique de l' Ouest ( BCEAO, colloquially - phonetically spoken of BSAO bank) may be translated as: West African Central Bank is the central bank of the African countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d' Ivoire, Guinea- Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo. These countries form the West African Economic and Monetary Union ( UEMOA ).

The headquarters is located in Dakar, capital of Senegal, in every country in the WAEMU least one branch will be entertained.

History

1853 a first private bank was founded with the name of Banque du Sénégal in Senegal. On June 29, 1901, the Banque de l' Afrique Occidentale was founded, which acted as a central bank for the French colonies in Africa and whose duties took over and in 1920 extended its activities to the central African French territories. As of December 26, 1945 began to emit the West African CFA franc. On January 20, 1955 separation between West and Central Africa followed in the administration, and for West Africa, the Institut d' Emission de l' Afrique Occidentale et du Togo was established, which became the West African Central Bank on April 4, 1959.
