Central Coast Mariners FC W-League

The Central Coast Mariners Women were an Australian women's football team from Gosford, New South Wales. The professional team was founded in 2008 and played until mid-2010 in the W- League, the highest level of female football league in the country. The team was part of the football club Central Coast Mariners FC whose professional men's team continues to play in the A-League.

History

2008/ 09 - Foundation and first season

For the 2008/09 season, the Australian football federation founded the professional women's football league, the W-League. In the same year, the Central Coast Mariners FC decided next to his playing in the A-League professional men's team also set up a women's team. The team was therefore one of the eight founding members of the new league. As coach of the Australian Stephen Roche has been committed. At the end of his first season, the team only reached the sixth place in the table and pulled therefore not included in the W-League play-offs one.

2009 - Second and final season

After the disappointing result of last year's season, the women's team could end this season would come in second place in the table. Thus, the Central Coast Mariners Women attracted first time in the play-offs. In the semifinals, the team met the Brisbane Roar Women. In the local Central Coast Stadium, the Central Coast Mariners Brisbane Roars documents with 0:1.

Despite the quite successful season was announced on the part of the association in 2010, set up no longer women's team in the coming season 2010/11. As a basic lack of funds were given. This left the Central Coast Mariners Women W -League and stopped the game operation.

In the following two seasons, the W-League consisted of only seven teams to the 2012/13 season, the Western Sydney Wanderers Women joined the League.
