Centreville is an American city in Bibb County in Alabama. The city is the county seat.

Demography

At the 2000 census Centreville had 2,466 residents, 953 households, and 684 families. 75.95 % of the population were white, 23.03% were African-American. 24.6 % of the population were under 18 years old, 17.8% over 65, the average age was 39 years. The average income of residents stood at 15,449 U.S. dollars, while 19.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

History

Since Centreville is located near the Cahaba River, the city was early an important trading point for the environment. In 1821 the first post office was built in Centreville throughout the County, in 1823 bought Sarah Willis Chotard the area on and left it there settlers colonize. 1829, the city became the county seat of Bibb County. The town of Centreville was declared in 1832, since 1978 is one of the old town of Centreville on the National Register of Historic Places.
