Long snouts dogfish ( Deania quadrispinosum )

The rolling Sharks ( Centrophoridae ) ( Greek, kentron = thorn, pherein = bear ) are a family of Dornhaiartigen ( Squaliformes ) which includes two genera and 19 species. They live in all tropical and warm temperate seas on the continental shelf and on the continental slopes and absent only in the eastern Pacific.

Features

There are small sharks that are 80 to 160 inches long. They carry a grooved spine before each of the two dorsal fins. An anal fin is missing. The Schanz fins stalk has no lateral keels. The teeth of the upper jaw is smaller than that of the lower jaw.

They live around the world, mostly on the shelf of islands and continents in temperate, subtropical and tropical seas, but absent in the eastern Pacific. The Centrophoridae are viviparous ( ovoviviparous ).
