Centuripe

Centuripe is a city in the province of Enna in Sicily region of Italy with 5596 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Centuripe is located 80 km northeast of Enna. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and the production of bottled water.

With the Catenanuova - Centuripe station has become the place following the railway line Catania - Enna and on to Palermo. The journey time to Enna is about 40 minutes.

The neighboring municipalities are Adrano (CT ), Bianca Villa ( CT), Bronte (CT ), Castel di Judica (CT ), Catenanuova, Paternò (CT ), Randazzo (CT) and Regalbuto.

History

In ancient times here was the place Sicel Centuripa. In the 5th century BC, the Greeks conquered the place. In the 3rd century BC Here the local pottery production developed ( Centuripe genus ). Emperor Frederick II destroyed the city after a riot in 1233. In 1548 it was re-established under the name Centorbi and leads since 1863 Centuripe name.
